Chris Matthews is insane

McCain is apparently just like some boxer called "The Mongoose"? Archie somebody?

Update:
Oh man. Tweety is dialed in. He's asking a guest repeatedly if John McCain is "too troll-like"! Troll-like! Also "kind of a codger." That's awesome.

Archie Moore was The Mongoose. He was famed not just for his pugilistic prowess but for his exotic weight-loss methods. Never in the history of prizefighting has it been unpopular to pursue unorthodox training techniques and Moore was very popular. He also fought until he was, like, 62, making him very much like Satchel Paige and Raquel Welch in being able to come with it long after the dew had dried. He fought Ezzard Charles, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson, and Muhammad Ali, which is batshit ballsy. In modern times, from a timeline standpoint, that would be the equivalent of fighting a young and still tethered Tyson, Holyfield, Byrd, and Klitschko. Also, he was a light heavyweight fighting heavyweights.

I believe the "weight-loss" method to which you refer was Moore's habit of eating steak by chewing it until the juices were drained from the flesh, and then surreptitiously expectorating the dried beef into a napkin. Moore claimed that this practice allowed him to gain the nutrients but not the weight. A similar technique is popular among female models, and was renovated and supersized for global use by President George H.W. Bush during a visit to Japan in 1992.
